Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – The Bridgewater College volleyball team dropped only its second ODAC match in a 3-0 (14-25, 21-25, 21-25) lost at defending conference champ Randolph-Macon on Friday evening.
The last time Bridgewater (17-5, 6-2 ODAC) saw defeat in conference play was against preseason favorite Washington and Lee on Sept. 17. BC won the first set 28-26 before W&L rallied to claim the match, 3-1.
Bridgewater now slides to fourth in the league standings, but remains in position to host an ODAC tournament match. On the other hand, Randolph-Macon (16-4, 8-0 ODAC) strengthens its hold on the No. 1 spot as the only unbeaten team in league action
Abby Mills led the Eagles tonight after posting another double-double on 10 kills and digs each. Taylor McNeely notched a match-high 18 digs and Macon Frey added 14 more.
Rachael Girard paced BC in assists with 15, and Carleigh Studtmann was 6-for-13 at the net with just two errors and a .308 attack percentage.
R-MC was led by Rebecca McGilvery and her match-high 19 kills (.378). Erin Quinn dished out 28 assists to go along with 13 digs, and Samantha Sallade dug up 14 attacks.
The Eagles lost the first set by a double-digit margin, but grabbed a 14-12 advantage on a kill by Studtmann in the second period. The Yellow Jackets then regained the lead with a 6-0 rally to make it 18-14.
Girard found Studtmann again to cut into the R-MC lead, 21-20, but the Yellow Jackets closed out the period on a 4-1 run.
Late in the third set, the Eagles were down by one point, 19-18, before McGilvery hammered three kills as part of a 6-3 spurt for the match victory.
The Eagles will compete against Virginia Wesleyan tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. for their third ODAC road test in a five-day span.
