Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team dropped a pair at home during a tri-match in Nininger Hall on Saturday evening.
The Eagles (2-10, 0-3 ODAC) lost their third straight conference match against Randolph-Macon (12-1, 3-0 ODAC), 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-13).
In the heart of the first set, a kill from sophomore Sarah Temple gave the Eagles a 15-13 lead. The Eagles scoring advantage was short lived as they committed three straight attack errors for a 17-15 deficit.
The Yellow Jackets then went on an 8-2 run to close out the period.
During the second set, the Eagles were able to take an early lead, 5-1, thanks to a kill from freshman Danielle McKelvey.
The Yellow Jackets took its first lead of the set behind a service ace to create a 10-9 affair.
Later in the second, Temple blasted a kill for a 17-all score, but the Yellow Jackets offense rattled off three straight kills for set point, 24-20.
The Yellow Jackets took an 18-9 lead in the third set and never looked back. The Yellow Jackets had its best offense of the match during the third frame with a hitting percentage of .304, and the Eagles hurt themselves by committing 10 errors.
McKelvey led the offense with nine kills, freshman Jenna Hamra recorded 13 assists and sophomore Macon Frey had 10 digs.
In the second match of the doubleheader, the Eagles fell to non-conference opponent St. Mary's (6-4) 3-1 (25-13, 25-22, 25-27, 25-23).
The Eagles started the first set sluggish by falling behind 17-7 and never recovered during the period.
Deep in the second set, senior Jette Wade hammered a kill for a 20-16 advantage. A bad set from Hamra gave the Seahawks a 23-22 lead.
The Seahawks went on to land back-to-back kills for the set point.
However, the Eagles battled in an intense third set to keep the match alive.
With the score tied 25-all, sophomore Carleigh Studtmann spiked a kill to give the Eagles a one point margin. Freshman Deja Booker recorded a kill on the next play for the set point.
Both teams continued the battle back and forth in the fourth set. Booker landed another kill to put the Eagles up 22-20, but the Seahawks ignited a 5-1 run to win the match.
As a team, the Eagles posted 44 kills, 40 assists, 90 digs and six service aces.
McKelvey paced the offense again with 12 kills and Booker added 11 for her most in the season. Hamra tallied 31 assists and 19 digs while Frey notched 20 digs.
The Eagles are on the road for their next contest against Averett on Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
