Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College softball team dropped two home losses against conference rival Randolph-Macon Wednesday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets grabbed an immediate lead in the top of the first of the opener as they loaded the bases with no outs. Madison Gilman reached on a fielder's choice to bring in Amanda Sopko for the first run before the next few batters brought in three more runners to push Randolph-Macon ahead 4-0.
During their turn at bat, The Eagles managed to get on base as Rayann Foltz walked, followed by Brianna Cox reaching first on a fielder's choice. However the Eagles wouldn't reach home plate as they tallied their three outs in quick succession.
In the top of the second, the Eagles collected the first out quickly as Karie Burgess caught a fly ball in right field but a sacrifice fly by Katie Woody plated the Yellow Jackets' fifth run of the game.
Randolph-Macon avoided a third out as three more runners reached home before the inning closed with the Yellow Jackets holding an 8-0 lead.
Bridgewater was unable to find a run at all during the game and Randolph-Macon clinched the final 9-0 tally to end the game in five innings.
The Eagles had no hits for the game. Amanda Lutz took the loss in the circle, allowing four runs on four hits whlie striking out one batter and walking two.
Woody went 2-for-2 for the Yellow Jackets, collecting two runs and two RBIs while Katie Lockett was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Sopko was 2-for-3 with two runs.
Nelda Bagley pitched the no hitter and extended her record to 7-1, striking out nine batters.
The second game started out in a similar fashion as Sharese Jarvis singled to bat in Sierra Ford. Gilman then doubled to centerfield for two RBIs before scoring the final run to pull the Yellow Jackets ahead 4-0.
Randolph-Macon snatched two more runs for a 6-0 lead in the top of the second and kept the Eagles scoreless into the top of the fourth when Sopko and Jarvis added one run each for an 8-0 score.
The Yellow Jackets closed out their scoring with three final runs in the top of the fifth, taking a commanding 11-0 lead. However the Eagles were able to escape another no hitter as Brooke Throckmorton singled to centerfield in the bottom of the fifth.
Amber Wood had the second hit for Bridgewater to reach base and advanced her teammate to second. Both runners would advance one more base as the Eagles landed their first out but two more would follow and bring the game to an end in the fifth inning.
Throckmorton was 1-for-2 at bat while Wood was 1-for-1. Hannah Trala took her first loss in the circle, allowing four runs on five hits while walking two batters.
Jarvis was 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs. Gilman was 4-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs. Kelsey McLaughlin took the win in the circle and only gave up two hits.
The Eagles are back on the road Friday when they travel to ODAC rival Virginia Wesleyan. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
