BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team rolled to an 8-1 ODAC victory Wednesday afternoon over Virginia Wesleyan.
Bridgewater received three victories in the match via default, taking points at No. 3 doubles and No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, the Eagles No. 1 team of Maria Hawkins and Marla O'Bryan stopped Mia Proctor and Jackie Lee 8-4. At the No. 2 slot, BC's Ashley Price and Whitney Cash defeated Kristen Walden and Tiye Bush 8-2.
Hawkins and O'Bryan continued their strong efforts at the top two spots in the singles ladder. Hawkins downed Proctor 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and O'Bryan swept Walden 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2.
The Eagles earned their final point at No. 4 where Cash took a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Bush.
The Marlins notched their point at No. 3 when Lee defeated Price in split sets. Lee gained the upper hand by winning the opening set 6-3, but Price evened the match with a 6-2 win in the second set. A tiebreaker was played to determine the winner with Lee prevailing by a 10-5 margin.
