Mary Washington Takes Two from Bridgewater

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Bridgewater College softball team dropped two as the Eagles went against the University of Mary Washington, falling 3-0 in the first game and 8-0 in the second game.

Mary Washington collected two runs in the bottom of the first inning as Hannah Hautz hit a homer to bring in teammate Alex Tenney for a quick 2-0 lead. Bridgewater was able to hold off their opponent as the Eagles got three consecutive outs in the top of the second.

Mary Washington collected a few hits to get runners on base and would sneak in another run on a Bridgewater error to push the score to 3-0.

The Eagles were unable to score a run to get on the board and Mary Washington took the first win of the day.

Bridgewater had four hits for the game. Jen Balcom and Brianna Cox went 1-for-3 at the plate while Hannah Nyquist was 1-for-2 and Amber Wood was 1-for-1.

Anna Patterson pitched five innings in the circle, allowing three runs on six hits while strking out one batter and walking one.

Hautz had three RBIs for Mary Washington and was 1-for-3 at bat. Brittany Scites was 2-for-3 while Alex Tenny, Hannah Otterman and Olivia Tartara went 1-for-2. Otterman pitched all seven innings and allowed no runs on four hits.

In the second game, Mary Washington pushed for an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first before collecting another in the next inning.

Bridgewater got its first and only hit of the game as Cox doubled to left center field in the top of the fourth with two outs. However she would not advance further in the inning as Wood collected the final out on a swing and miss to send the Eagles to the dugout.

Mary Washington scored the final three runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game and collect its second win of the day with an 8-0 score.

Cox was 1-for-2 at the plate. Amanda Lutz pitched two innings of relief in the circle, allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out one batter and walking one. Wood took the loss for the Eagles on the mound, where she allowed three runs on four hits and struck out one.

Hautz had two RBIs and was 2-for3 at the plate. Tenney was 3-for-4 with one RBI. Rachel Watts took the win in the circle, allowing one hit and no runs with three strikeouts and one walk.

The Eagles (5-7 overall) are back at home on Sunday when they host Methodist University. The first game is set to start at noon.
