Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team dropped its third straight conference road match during a 3-1 (25-11, 15-25, 23-25, 23-25) defeat to Randolph College Wednesday evening in the RAD Center.
The Eagles (7-15, 3-7 ODAC) entered the contest looking to recover from back-to-back 3-0 road losses to ODAC opponents Washington and Lee and Shenandoah.
The Eagles got off to a quick start by recording 13 kills and holding the Wildcats (6-19, 2-7 ODAC) to 11 points as they cruised through the first set.
In the first period, a kill from junior Abby Mills put the Eagles ahead 16-6, and four straight errors from the Wildcats allowed the Eagles to close out the first period.
The Eagles looked poised for a 3-0 victory, but the Wildcats won the hitting battle .333 to -.065 in the second set to tie the match score.
The Wildcats pulled away in the second frame with an 18-7 margin and closed out the period with a 6-0 run to claw back into the match.
The third set was evenly matched with the score tied 23-all following a service ace from sophomore Carleigh Studtmann. The Wildcats then received back-to-back kills from Autumn Troxell to go up 2-1.
During the fourth set, both teams notched 14 kills, but eight errors from the Eagles prevented them from forcing a fifth set.
The Eagles found themselves tied 23-all again in the fourth set, but the Wildcats sealed the victory with back-to-back kills from Alex Mariona to win their second ODAC match of the year.
Mills posted her third double-double of the season with 15 kills and 10 digs, freshmen Jenna Hamra and Victoria Wilson both posted 17 assists and sophomore Macon Frey recorded 24 digs.
The Eagles continue their road stretch as they travel to Huntingdon, Pa. to compete in the Wid-Guisler Invitational Oct. 23-24.
The Eagles open the tournament against Geneva (5 p.m.) Oct. 23 and wrap up the event with matches against Juniata (12 p.m.) and Carnegie Mellon (4 p.m.) Oct. 24.
