Box Score NORFOLK, Va. – The Bridgewater College field hockey team scored four first half goals as the Eagles won their fourth straight, 4-1 at Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday.
Senior Alenka Ferrufino had two goals, while classmate Allison Kirk added two assists. Elizabeth Washington had a goal and an assist.
The Eagles started fast, scoring three times in the opening 13 and a half minutes.
Kirk assisted on the day's opening two goals, feeding Washington and then Ferrufino for a quick 2-0 advantage.
Virginia Wesleyan did pull one back, but the Eagles attacked right back down and earned a penalty corner. Fletcher provided the stick stop on Washington's insert, and Ferrufino smacked it past VWC goalie Skye Swain for a 3-1 lead.
Bridgewater made it four after just 18 minutes gone, with an unassisted goal from Rachael Loy.
The Eagles nearly had a fifth goal within the opening 20 minutes, but a Taylor Prillaman shot rang off the crossbar and a rattled Marlins team soon took a timeout.
BC would not score again for the reminder of the contest but continued to dominate possession, with Swain ultimately finishing with 16 saves. Freshman Hannah Rioux made two stops in the cage for Bridgewater.
The Eagles controlled the midfield throughout, and totaled a 10-1 advantage in penalty corners and a 26-4 edge in shots. 20 of those 26 shots were on target, including eight of nine Ferrufino attempts that were on goal.
Wednesday's game had been rescheduled from October 3 due to the Hurricane that hit the East Coast that weekend.
Bridgewater improves to .500 overall (7-7) and 3-1 in ODAC play. The Eagles travel to Roanoke on Saturday at 1 p.m.
