VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Bridgewater College evened its conference record at 1-1 with a convincing 9-0 victory Sunday over Virginia Wesleyan in Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's tennis action.
The Eagles swept the three doubles, losing a total of just eight games.
At No. 1 doubles, Katie Gordon and Maria Hawkins defeated Hannah Rice and Hannah Parent, 8-2. The scored was the same at No. 2 as Brittany Wilson and Marla O'Bryan defeated Marissa Cifuentes and Lisa Nguyen. Jessie Mitchell and Whitney Cash completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles over Mia Practor and Sydney Charity.
Bridgewater dominated singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets while losing a total of just six games.
Gordon defeated Practor 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 and Hawkins followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 over Parent. Wilson stopped Cifuentes 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 and O'Bryan blanked Rice 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Mitchell took a 6-0, 6-1 win at the fifth slot and Cash finished off the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Charity at No. 6 singles.
The Eagles return to action on March 9 when they compete against Ohio Wesleyan in Hilton Head, S.C. Match time has yet to be determined.
