BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team defeated Lynchburg College, 9-0, Saturday afternoon on the Bridgewater courts.
The Eagles took control by sweeping the doubles points.
At No. 1, Katie Gordon and Brittany Wilson blanked Lynchburg's Betsy Stipa and Melissa Drinkard, 8-0. Bridgewater's Miranda Donovan and Rita Murphy stopped Ari Peikin and Madison Dixon, 8-4, at No. 2. Olivia Stone and Jessie Mitchell completed the sweep with an 8-3 victory over Kelsey Bergen and Catherine So at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Gordon started the Eagles off with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Drinkard at No. 1. At the No. 2 singles slot Wilson defeated Stipa 6-0, 6-2.
Stone had the closest set of the day at No. 3 singles when she defeated Bergen 7-6 in the first set. Stone won the tiebreaker 10-8 and then rolled to a 6-0 victory in the second set.
At No. 4 singles, Mitchell downed Dixon 6-1, 6-2 while Donovan blanked Pieken 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Murphy won her match at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 decision over So.
The Eagles are now 10-1 overall and 3-1 in ODAC play.
