VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Bridgewater Eagles volleyball team turned in a convincing 3-0 victory on the road on Wednesday evening in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action at the Batten Center on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan.

Bridgewater (12-12, 2-6 ODAC) took a tight first set by a 25-22 margin before rolling to an easy 25-13 victory in the second set of the evening. The Eagles came from behind late in the third set to earn a 25-21 victory and a key conference win on the road.

Virginia Wesleyan (11-8, 4-2 ODAC) rolled out to the first three points of the opening set before a Katie Long kill opened up a four-point run for the Eagles to build a 4-3 Bridgewater advantage. The lead see-sawed back and forth throughout the set before the Eagles took the lead for good late in the opening frame. A Virginia Wesleyan attack error tied the set up at 22 points each before Bridgewater rattled off the next three points in a row to take the set. Bridgewater continued set two where it left off in the opening set as the Eagles ran out to an early 7-0 lead. Numerous Virginia Wesleyan attack errors, mixed with kills from Long, Megann Grimes and Lindsay Kallam allowed the Eagles to rattle off the first seven points of the set. The Marlins broke off the Bridgewater spurt with back-to-back kills before the Eagles responded with kills form Long and Grimes to take a 9-2 advantage. Virginia Wesleyan cut the Bridgewater lead to six, 13-7, before a Rachel Donaldson kill and back-to-back service aces from Kallam allowed the Eagles to pull out to a 16-7 advantage. Bridgewater eventually pulled away in the set, earning a 25-13 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third set, it was Virginia Wesleyan capitalizing on a pair of early Bridgewater attack errors to take the lead at a 2-0 tally before the Eagles answered in a big way. A kill from the swing of Carter opening up a five point run as Bridgewater took the lead in the final set by a 5-2 score. Virginia Wesleyan tallied three of the next four points to trim the gap to a 6-5 Bridgewater lead but kills by Long and Grimes and an attack error on the Marlins allowed the Eagles to open up a 9-5 advantage early in the set. Virginia Wesleyan regained the lead late in the set, but Bridgewater answered again, this time with another kill from Carter and a pair of three-point runs late in the set to roll to a 25-21 win in the third set to claim a 3-0 match victory.

Long led the Bridgewater attack with nine kills on the evening, while Carter chipped in eight in the victory. Carter hit at a blistering .438 attack percentage on the evening to lead Bridgewater to a .231 attack percentage as a team.
