Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – After earning an easy 8-0 victory in game one of a doubleheader with Mary Washington (9-9), senior Hillary Rees broke a seventh-inning deadlock with a single to right field, scoring senior Sarah Heretick to earn the 24th-ranked Bridgewater Eagles softball team the sweep over the visiting Eagles.

In the opener, Bridgewater (13-1) opened a 1-0 lead after two innings before a four-run fourth blew the game wide open before the Eagles eventually rolled to an 8-0 victory in six innings. The Eagles came from behind in the nightcap to earn a 2-1 win.

Following a scoreless first inning in game one, the Eagles bats came alive in the second when junior Morgan Williams drilled a solo blast over the left-field fence to put the Eagles up 1-0 after two complete.

Bridgewater starting pitcher Heather Jenkins rolled through the Mary Washington line-up in the third and fourth before the Eagles blew the game wide open in the home half of the fourth.

After a fly out led off the inning, an Aven Thomas single was followed by an Ann Komara walk to put runners at first and second with one out. Rees singled down the right field line to load the bases, forcing Mary Washington to replace starting pitcher Annie Blaine.

Sophomore Kasey Anderson drove in the first run of the inning on a fielder's choice, plating Thomas from third to put the Eagles up 2-0 before a sacrifice fly to center field from the bat of Leigh Lam gave the Eagles a 3-0 advantage.

Junior Melanie Lamb ended the scoring in the fourth with a two-RBI single down the right-field line which scored Anderson and Rees to propel the Eagles to a 5-0 lead after four.

Folllowing a scoreless fifth inning from both teams, the Bridgewater bats came alive again in the sixth with three runs to put the game in the books.

Rees led off the inning with a single before Anderson reached on a fielder's choice and swiped second to put a runner in scoring position with one away.

Lam also reached on a fielder's choice as Anderson was gunned down at third base to retire two in the sixth for the Eagles.

Lamb followed with a single, while Jenkins stung a double to right field to plate Lamb and Lam to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead.

Sophomore Brea Hinegardner ended the game with a single to drive in pinch runner Sarah Goodman from second base to hand the Eagles an 8-0 win in six innings.

Lamb paced the Eagles at the plate in the opener with a 3-for-4 game with a run scored and two RBI. Jenkins added a 2-for-4 game with two RBI in the win.

In the circle, Jenkins was again effectively untouchable as the junior earned her fourth shutout win of the season to move to 5-0 on the season. Jenkins allowed just two hits and struck out a pair on the afternoon.

Two batters had a hit each for Mary Washington, while Blaine earned the game one loss in the circle.

In the second half of the twinbill, Mary Washington jumped out to a 1-0 lead after an inning of play, while the Bridgewater bats were silenced until the fifth.

Bridgewater got things going with a one-out walk from Sarah Heretick in the fifth before a Goodman single and an error by the shortstop put runners at second and third with one away.

Rees knotted the game up on a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Heretick to tie the score at 1-1.

After allowing the run in the first inning, senior starter Summer Ramsey settled in for the Eagles in the middle innings before shutting down Mary Washington in the sixth and seventh to give Bridgewater a chance at the win in the bottom of the seventh.

Thomas led the inning off with a strike out before Heretick reached on a walk to give the Eagles a runner with one out.

Following a Goodman pop up and a passed ball, Heretick hung out at second base with Rees heading to the plate. Rees stung a 2-0 pitch to right field, driving in Heretick from second base to give the Eagles a hard-fought 2-1 win in the nightcap.

Anderson led the Eagles at the plate with a 2-for-3 effort, while Rees drove in both Bridgewater runs in the win at part of a 1-for-3 outing. Bridgewater manufactured both runs in the game as the Eagles scraped out just four hits to earn their 13th win of the season.

Ramsey earned the win in the circle, going the distance while allowing one run on five hits to post her second win of the year.

Morgan Lamon paced the Mary Washington bats in the second game with a 2-for-3 effort, while Kerry Busby was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate in the nightcap.

Starting pitcher Hannah Otterman allowed both runs and struck out five Bridgewater batters to post the loss in the circle.

Bridgewater is back in action on Saturday when York College (Pa.) comes to town for a doubleheader with the Eagles. Start time is set for 12 p.m.
