Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – In non-conference action on Sunday afternoon, the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision on the road at #13 Christopher Newport University.
The host Captains (10-1) got on the board at the 9:37 mark when Belle Tunstall scored the first of her two goals when she slipped a shot past Bridgewater netminder Jessica Balsano to put the Captains up 1-0.
Christopher Newport added an insurance goal 16 minutes later when Tunstall assisted a Lindsay Hendricks tally to extend the CNU lead to 2-0.
Tunstall registered her second goal of the game at the 30:40 mark, before Shelby Judkins scored in the waning moments of the first half to give the host Captains a 4-0 lead at the intermission.
Bridgewater (6-5) stayed with Christopher Newport in the second stanza, holding the Captains off of the scoreboard in an evenly contested final 35 minutes, but the Eagles couldn't get on the board as they fell in defeat by a 4-0 tally.
Sophomore Caroline Augsburger led the Eagles offensively with two shots, while freshman Taylor Prillaman registered a shot in the loss. Prillaman's six-game scoring streak was snapped in the defeat.
Balsano recorded 10 saves in the cage to pick up the loss.
Tunstall paced the Captains' attack with a five-point outing off of two goals and a helper, while Jamie Dowling earned the victory for CNU in the cage.
Bridgewater is back in action on Tuesday at home against Randolph-Macon. Start time against the Yellow Jackets is set for 4 p.m.
