Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – Sophomore Megann Grimes led the way for the Bridgewater Eagles volleyball team with 14 kills in a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Randolph College on Friday night.
Senior Cadie Castle and junior Katie Long recorded 11 kills each along with four total blocks. Senior Bethany Doman had nine kills, six digs and two blocks for the Eagles.
Setter Lindsay Kallam tallied 37 assists, while senior libero Casey O'Leary chipped in 17 digs. Freshman Nikki Snyder also added 11 digs for the Eagles.
Two WildCats stood out on the evening. Celine Rhodes had 15 kills and Jordan Templin recorded 14. Templin also added 18 digs for Randolph.
Bridgewater came out of the gate strong earning five straight points early in set one. Randolph came back with a five-point run pushing ahead of the Eagles. The WildCats kept the lead for the rest of the set and won 25-16.
Randolph came off of the first set and rattled off an early run to take a six-point lead. Bridgewater traded points with the WildCats but couldn't overcome the early Randolph run before falling by a 25-12 tally int eh second set.
The third set was neck-and-neck until three kills from freshman Maddy Carter and O'Leary put the Eagles ahead by five points. A kill from Castle and three service aces in a row from O'Leary ended the third set to hand Bridgewater a 25-16 victory.
Bridgewater earned the first four points of the fourth set with two kills from Long and a kill from Grimes. Randolph responded with a five-point run to take the lead. A kill from Doman tied the set 10-10 before the Eagles eventually pulled away to win the set by a 25-18 following two kills from O'Leary and a kill from Carter.
The two teams traded points in the fifth set but Bridgewater took the lead with kills from Grimes and Long. The Eagles defeated the WildCats 15-9 and improved to a record of 8-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).
The Eagles travel across town to Lynchburg College tomorrow for another ODAC contest at 2 p.m.
