BRIDGEWATER, Va. –Junior Katie Long recorded 14 kills in another outstanding performance for the Bridgewater volleyball team in a 3-0 win over Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday night in Nininger Hall.

Bridgewater started the first set strong with a kill by Long in the first play of the game. The two teams went back-and-forth until back-to-back kills by Long put the Eagles ahead at a 16-15 tally.. Bridgewater pulled away from Virginia Wesleyan and a service error by the Marlins ended the set victorious for the Eagles, 25-21.

The second set was neck-and- neck until a kill from Long that tied the game, 6-6. The Eagles scored the next three points forcing the Marlins to call a timeout. Bridgewater came out of the timeout strong with three consecutive points making Virginia Wesleyan use another timeout. The Marlins regrouped out of the second timeout to take the lead with a service ace making the score 18-17. Back-to-back kills from Castle and Long put the Eagles back in gear to eventually take the set, 25-19.

A block from Grimes and Doman set the tone right off the bat for the third set. The back-and-forth affair continued until the 12-12 mark when a service ace from Doman pushed the Eagles ahead by a point. Bridgewater controlled the remainder of the set before a kill from Grimes and back-to-back kills from Long ended the set, handing Bridgewater a 25-20 victory.
