Box Score WASHINGTON D.C. - Catholic scored two runs in the third inning and four in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead and the Cardinals went on to defeat Bridgewater College 10-3 Thursday in non-conference baseball action.
The Cardinals scored in the second when Kory Smigocki reached on an error before Chris McCloud belted a two-run homer for a 2-0 lead.
Catholic took advantage of another Eagles error in the fourth as two of its four runs were unearned as the lead swelled to 6-0. McCloud had the big hit with a two-run single to left that made the score 6-0.
Bridgewater got on the board with a run in the fifth. Brett Howell led off with a double and Alex Hogge walked. With one out, Howell moved to third when Hogge was forced out at second on a grounder. Christian Armstrong then plated Howell with a two-out single, making the score 6-1.
Catholic's offense continued to roll in the bottom of the inning when they added two more runs to push the lead to 8-1.
The Eagles pushed across a run in the sixth. Andrew Hacker reached on an error, Jay Thompson walked and Jake Wade singled to load the bases. Hacker scored on Hogge's groundout, making the score 8-2.
Catholic made it 10-2 with two runs in the eight and the Eagles tallied their final run in the ninth on Bryan Sanderson's single, making the final tally 10-3.
The Eagles finished with just six hits with Thompson leading the way with a single and double in three at-bats.
Catholic took advantage of four Bridgewater errors as only three of the Cardinals 10 runs were earned.
The Eagles, now 21-16, close out the regular season with a doubleheader Saturday at Guilford College.
