BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater starters Joseph Lucas and Kevin Chandler pitched the Eagles to a doubleheader sweep Saturday over conference rival Hampden-Sydney. Lucas pitched a complete-game, three-hit shutout to lead the Eagles to a 3-0 victory on the opener while Chandler allowed just two runs in eight innings in BC's 10-2 win in the second game.

Lucas struck out eight and walked just one in his complete-game performance.

In the opener, the Eagles scored all the runs they would need in the bottom of the first when Jonathan Mason lined a bases-loaded single to center to plate two runs.

Bridgewater added an unearned insurance run in the eighth on a run-scoring single by Alex Nuttycombe to complete the scoring.

Lucas struck out eight and walked just one in his complete-game performance. Jay Thompson and Nuttycombe had two hits apiece and Mason drove home two runs.

In the second game, the Eagles jumped on the Tigers for four runs in the bottom of the first and coasted to the sweep.

Devon Snow led off the first with a bunt single for the Eagles and Kevin Kirk followed with a double. Snow scored on Brett Howell's grounder and Howell reached on the play on a throwing error. Jay Thompson walked to load the bases and Mason followed with a two-run single, making the score 3-0. Thompson scored on a single by Andrew Hacker for a 4-0 lead.

The Tigers scored in the third on a double by Chris Martin but the Eagles answered that run with one in the fourth. Bryan Sanderson led off with a single, took second on a sacrifice bunt and moved to third on a wild pitch. Sanderson scored on Christian Armstrong grounder to make the score 5-1.

Bridgewater broke the game open with three runs in the fifth. Singles by Kirk and Thompson put runners at the corners before Mason singled to right, giving BC a 6-1 lead. A groundout put runners at second and third and Sanderson delivered a single up the middle to plate both runners, making the score 8-1.

The Tigers scored in the eighth on a run-scoring single by Martin, but the Eagles tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the inning to complete the scoring. Dustin Arrowood and Sanderson led off with singles and Arrowood scored on a double by Armstrong. Sanderson raced home when Snow singled up the middle off the pitcher's leg, making the score 10-2.

Chandler allowed seven hits in his eight innings. He struck out four and walked one. Robert Gallet pitched the ninth and struck out two while walking one.

Kirk was 3-for-5 in Game 2 and Sanderson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Mason finished 2-for-3 with three runs batted in.
