BRIDGEWATER, Va. – A sweep in doubles play started the day for the Bridgewater Eagles women's tennis team as the Eagles pushed their winning streak to nine matches with an easy 8-1 victory over visiting Virginia Wesleyan.
At the number one doubles post, the freshmen dup of Katie Gordon and Katy Bergey claimed an 8-4 victory in the tightest doubles match of the day. Gordon and Bergey have now won a team-best nine dual matches in the Spring.
Junior Ally McConuaghy and fellow junior Emily Schweitzer took home an 8-1 victory at number two, before the tandem of Brittany Wilson and Olivia Stone completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win at number three.
Gordon got the Eagles off to a good start at number one singles, with a 7-5, 6-0 win, prior to Bergey's 6-2, 6-3 triumph at number two.
Virginia Wesleyan got its lone win of the match at number three by a 6-0, 6-0 score, but Bridgewater righted the ship at number four with a 7-5, 6-0 victory from Wilson. Wilson's win was her tenth straight.
Senior Morgan McGhee kept things rolling with a 6-1, 6-3 win at number five, before sophomore Amanda Gorby rounded things out with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number six.
Bridgewater is back in action on Saturday, April 2 when the team travels to perennial power Hollins.
