Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, Va. -Bridgewater College split its Sunday afternoon twinbill with Elizabethtown, winning the opener 5-1 before losing the second game 7-2.
In the opener, Tyler Milstead pitched a complete game six-hitter to pick up the victory. Milstead struck out four and did not walk a batter.
The Eagles started the game with five straight hits in the bottom of the first. Devon Snow led off the inning with a bunt single, stole second and scored on a single by Kevin Kirk to put the Eagles on the board. Brett Howell singled to put two runners on and Jay Thompson followed with a liner up the middle for a hit. Kirk, was throw out at the plate by Elizabethtown centerfielder Jake Hoffstein for the first out of the inning. Howell scored on a single by Jonathan Mason, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
Bridgewater added two more runs in the second inning. Bryan Sanderson and Christian Armstrong both walked and Snow followed with a double to score Sanderson for a 3-0 BC lead. Kirk then followed with a sacrifice fly to score Armstrong, making the score 4-0.
The Eagles added their final run in the fifth. Howell singled and moved to second on a groundout. Mason then chase Howell home with a double to make it 5-0.
Milstead lost his shutout bid in the seventh when the Blue Jays Matt Reade belted a solo homer.
In the second game, Elizabethtown lefty Joey Seremula hurled a complete-game five-hitter to lead the Blue Jays to the 7-2 victory.
The Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the first when Snow led off with a double and took third on a wild pitch. He scored on Howell's sacrifice fly for a 1-0 Bridgewater lead.
The Blue Jays answered with two in the second and then put up a four-spot in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead.
Bridgewater got one run back in the bottom of the fourth on Andrew Hacker's RBI-single, but Seremula blanked the Eagles the rest of the way to close out the victory.
The Eagles, now, 5-4, return to action Wednesday when they host Shenandoah. First pitched is slated for 3:00 p.m. Elizabethtown is now 1-2 on the season.
