HARRISONBURG, Va. – Midway through the second half, the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team knotted the game up to force overtime. In the extra set, the Eagles had opportunities but the Eastern Mennonite Royals scored the game winner midway through the extra session to defeat Bridgewater by a 3-2 score.

EMU got on the board first when Adriana Santiago netted a goal at the 11:11 mark to put the Royals up 1-0 which is where things would remain until late in the half. Bridgewater earned a corner as time expired, before Joan Burleson notched the equalizer on a corner in extra time to tie the game at one each at the break.

Out of the halftime intermission, Eastern Mennonite regained the lead just two minutes into the second frame off of a Michelle Zook goal to take a 2-1 lead.

Bridgewater tied things up just over a minute-and-a-half later when Jennifer Bateman scored off of a scramble in the front of the cage to tie the game at two goals apiece.

Both teams had opportunities across the remainder of regulation, but neither team could score the go-ahead goal as the game headed to overtime, tied at two goals each.

In the extra session, Eastern Mennonite made the most of its opportunities when Santiago tallied her second goal of the evening at the 8:14 mark to end the season for the Eagles, dropping Bridgewater by a 3-2 score.

Eastern Mennonite controlled play in the first half, but Bridgewater kept things even in the second frame. The Royals outshot Bridgewater on the day by a 25-to-12 margin and owned a 13-to-8 advantage in corners.

Senior Taylor Waddell recorded eight saves in her final appearance in the Crimson and Gold. EMU goalkeeper Mary Beth Danaher picked up the win, turning away five Eagles shots along the way.

Bridgewater ends the season with a 9-8 record.
