VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Bridgewater started strong Tuesday night with a win in the first set, but Virginia Wesleyan rallied to win the next three sets and the match.

The Eagles opened the match with a 25-23 win in the first set. Virginia Wesleyan led by as many as five points, 15-10, before the Eagles fought back and eventually tied the score at 19-19 on a kill by Bethany Doman (Strasburg, Va./Strasburg).

An attack error by the Marlins and a kill by Katie Long (Floyd, Va./Floyd County) gave the Eagles a two-point, 22-20, lead and BC held the hosts off with a kill by Katie Baker (Strasburg, Va./Strasburg) closing out the first game, 25-23.

The match turned in the second set when the Eagles missed an opportunity to take a 2-0 lead.

The Marlins jumped out to an early lead in the second set and led until a kill by Long tied the score at 23-23. A kill by Mara Hogan (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) tied the score at 25-25 and an attack error by the Marlins gave the Eagles a set point at 26-25. The Marlins tied the score on a kill by Alex Lambert  and another Lambert kill and a BC hitting error allowed the Marlins to tie the match with a 28-26 win.

The Eagles bolted to an early 7-3 lead in the third set before the Marlins rallied to the score at 10-10. The score was tied again at 16-16, but the Marlins scored the next three points to take the lead for good on their way to a 25-19 win in the third set.

Bridgewater controlled play early in the fourth game and led 8-2, but the Marlins fought back and tied the score at 14-14. The Marlins then forged ahead 19-16, but this time it was Bridgewater fighting from behind to tie the score at 20-20 on a block by Baker and Lindsay Kallam (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne).

After a service error by the Eagles, a kill by Kallam knotted the score at 21-21, but the Marlins scored the next four points to close out the match.

Baker led the Eagles with 11 kills, four blocks and a .421 hitting percentage. Kallam finished with 28 assists while Hogan led the team in digs with 16, followed by Casey O'Leary (Quinton, Va./New Kent) with 13.

The Eagles are now 12-12 overall and 5-4 in the ODAC.
