Box Score 2 DANVILLE, Va. - The Bridgewater College
volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of the
Cougar Classic at Averett University. The Eagles defeated Roanoke
College before losing to Greensboro College.
Bridgewater rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Roanoke in five
games in a non-conference game between ODAC rivals. The scores were
23-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-18, 15-13. The Eagles lost to Greensboro in
three close games 18-25, 23-25, 26-28. The Eagles played most of
both matches without the services of Katie Baker
(Strasburg, Va./Strasburg) who went down with an injury.
Ashley
Scott (South Riding, Va/Heritage) led the Eagles in kills in
the Roanoke contest with 17 and Candice Guy
(Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) added 15. Casey O'Leary
(Quinton, Va./New Kent) had 17 digs, followed by Guy with 15 and Bethany
Doman (Strasburg, Va./Strasburg) with 13. Kai-Lynn Stoker
(Potomac, Md./Jack Britt) contributed three assists and Lindsay
Kallam (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) dished out 32
assists.
Scott added a team-high nine kills against Greensboro, followed
by Katie
Long (Floyd Va./Floyd County) with seven. O'Leary led the team
in digs with 16 and aces with three while Doman added nine digs.
Kallam contributed 17 assists.
"We lost Katie Baker in the first set of the match against
Roanoke and the rest of the team stepped up and contributed with a
great group effort," Bridgewater head coach Greg Spector said.
"Bethany Doman and Carly Whiting
(New Castle, Va./Craig County) were thrust into positions where
they flourished and were a perfect complement to Ashley Scott and
Candice Guy."
The Eagles will play two mores matches Sunday, facing Austin
College and Averett University.
