BRIDGEWATER, Va. – In what could be a
busy day for the Bridgewater Eagles softball team, the Eagles
easily took down the Randolph WildCats by a 16-1 tally to advance
in the loser's bracket of 2010 ODAC Softball Tournament.
Junior Lauren
Childress got the scoring started for the Eagles in the first
when her single to centerfield plated sophomore Hillary Rees to
give BC a 1-0 advantage.
Bridgewater rounded out the three run inning when a Aven Thomas single
up the middle drove in Childress and junior Emily Morris to
build the Bridgewater lead to 3-0.
In the top of the second, the Eagles put three more runs on the
board when Morris homered to left field, scoring three runs, giving
Bridgewater a 6-0 advantage.
Randolph got o the board in the second with a run of its own
when a Sarah Montgomery single drove in Leigh Sexton to chop the
Bridgewater lead to 6-1.
Bridgewater responded in a big way, posting 10 runs in the third
to blow the game open at a 16-1 tally.
The Eagles batted around in the inning and plated all 10 runs
without the aid of a homer, while Rees and Thomas each posted two
hits in the frame.
After the two teams were held in check in the fourth, the
WildCats hammered back-to-back homeruns in the fifth, but it was
too little, too late as the Eagles cruised to a 16-3 victory over
Randolph.
Three players posted three RBI apiece with Thomas' perfect
3-for-3 outing leading the way. Rees, Morris and Childress each
turned in 2-for-3 games at the plate as the Eagles pounded out 14
hits.
In the circle, Ashley Gills picked up the win. Gills tossed
three innings of work, allowing one run on four hits while striking
out a pair of WildCats batters.
Ramsey worked the final two innings, allowing two runs on three
hits.
Lindsay Cross led the way for Randolph at the plate with a
2-for-3 game. Cross was a part of the back-to-back homeruns
sequence for the WildCats in the fifth.
Emily Ambrous picked up the loss for Randolph in the circle.
Ambrous worked the first two and a third innings, allowing 11 runs
on six hits.
Bridgewater is back in action this evening, at 5:00 p.m. against
