LYNCHBURG, Va. - Bridgewater College's (6-5,
4-2 ODAC) women's tennis team stormed out to a 3-0 lead after
doubles play and cruised in singles action en route to an 8-1
defeat of the Lynchburg Hornets in ODAC tennis action at Lynchburg.
At number one doubles, the tandem of Olivia Stone and Morgan
McGhee took home an 8-3 victory over Krysten Bishop and Clare
Wallendjack.
Sophomores Ally McConaughy and Emily Schweitzer were 8-6 winners
in the tightest doubles match of the day before Megan Mathias and
Miranda Donovan rounded out doubles play with an 8-0 win.
In singles play, Mathias picked up her team co-leading seventh
win of the year with a 6-1, 6-3 win at number one.
Bridgewater dropped its lone match of the day at number two when
Olivia Stone fell by a 6-3, 6-2 tally.
McGhee, McConaughy, Schweitzer and Amanda Gorby rounded out
singles play for the Eagles a win each.
McGhee was a 6-1, 6-2 straight sets winner at number three,
while McConaughy was a 6-2, 6-2 victor at number four.
Gorby didn't drop a game at number five en route to a 6-0, 6-0
win. The win for Gorby matched her up with Mathias for the most
wins on the season for an Eagles women's tennis player with 7.
Schweitzer rounded things out with a 6-0, 6-2 win at number six.
Bridgewater is back in action on Wednesday, April 7 when the
team hosts Roanoke.
