Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College Eagles
suffered a tough five-game loss at Lynchburg College in ODAC
volleyball action Wednesday evening.
Lynchburg won the first game 25-19 but the Eagles responded to
tie the match with a 25-22 victory in the second game. The teams
split the next two games with the Hornets winning 25-22 before the
Eagles came back to win Game 4 by a score of 25-18. Lynchburg then
took the deciding fifth game 15-11 to win the match.
Ashley
Scott (South Riding, Va./Heritage) led the Eagles with 17 kills
and Lindsay
Kallam (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) dished out 40
assists. Defensively, Candice Guy
(Fishersville, Va./Wilson Memorial) led the effort with 22
digs.
Despite the loss, Eagles head coach Greg Spector was able to
take some positives from Wednesday's performance. "We played hard.
We got ourselves in some situations where we down six or seven
points and then we would go on a run of our own to get back in the
game. We took some punches tonight, but we punched back and that's
good. Of course, I would like to be on the winning side, but
overall it was a good effort."
Lynchburg, now 6-2 in conference play, is battling for one of
the top seeds and is just one game out of first place. "Lynchburg
has a very good team. They are 11-1 at home so it's a tough place
to play on the road," said Spector. "I think tonight is a good
example of what our conference tournament could be like. The team
that is able to put three good matches together will be the team
that will win. There is a lot of parity and that should make for an
interesting tournament."
The Eagles, now 13-13 overall and 2-6 in the ODAC, return to
action Saturday when they travel to Emory & Henry for another
ODAC clash. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
