Bridgewater College split its ODAC doubleheader Friday against
Lynchburg, winning the opener 3-0 and losing the second game,
5-0.
Ashley Gills dominated the first game, blanking the Hornets while
allowing just one base hit. Gills struck out 10 and walked one. She
lost her no-hitter in the seventh inning when Meagen Fredenberg led
off with a single up the middle.
Kaitlyn Bowman gave the Eagles the lead with a solo homer in the
third inning.
The Eagles added two insurance runs in the sixth on RBI-singles by
Emily Morris and Bowman, making the final margin 3-0.
In the second game, its was Lynchburg ace Katie Bruce turning in a
dominating pitching performance. Bruce allowed four hits while
striking out 12 and walking just one to lead the Hornets to the
victory.
The Eagles are now 27-7 overall and 13-3 in the ODAC. BC clinched
the No. 2 seed for the ODAC tournament. Lynchburg is now 31-6
overall and 16-2 in the conference. The Hornets locked up the No. 1
seed for the conference tournament.
