Bridgewater College ran its record to 19-1 Tuesday by sweeping a
doubleheader against Greensboro College. The Eagles won the first
game 5-2 and took the second game 9-1.
In the first game, Bridgewater rallied from a 2-1 deficit with
three runs in the fifth inning. Kaitlyn Bowman reached on an error
to open the inning before the next two batters were retired.
Another error kept the inning alive and Drew Rutledge followed with
a run-scoring single to tie the score. Leah Cossentino singled to
load the sacks and Hillary Rees following with a two-run single,
giving BC a 4-2 lead.
Ashley Gills picked up the win with three scoreless innings of
relief. Gills is now 7-0 on the season.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the second game with a
run in the first and three in the second. Rees, who was 4-for-4 in
Game 2, had a two-run single to highlight the third inning
uprising.
The Eagles ended the contest with four runs in the sixth. Emily
Morris drove in the first run with a single and Bowman followed
with a two-run double. Lauren Childress ended the contest with a
single that invoked the eight-run rule.
Lindsey Lam pitched the first four innings to pick up the win. She
is now 4-1 on the season.
