Box Score 2 Bridgewater College rode a pair of strong pitching
performances and a productive day at the plate to sweep Guilford in
ODAC softball action. The Eagles won the opener, 11-0, and then
took the second game, 6-1.
In the opener Ashley Gills improved to 6-0 on the season with a
four-hit shutout, her fourth complete-game shutout of the
season.
The Eagles scored all the runs they would need in the first.
Hillary Rees walked, stole second and scored on Mallory Sandridge's
double to put BC on the board. With one out, Kaitlyn Bowman singled
and Caity Butler followed with a three-run homer, making the score
4-0.
The Eagles added three more runs in the second. Leah Cossentino
doubled and scored on a double by Rees. Emily Morris then belted a
two-run homer for a 7-0 lead.
The Eagles closed out their scoring in the fourth with four runs.
Bowman and Butler ripped RBI singles and Lauren Childress plated
two runs with a double, making the score 11-0.
In the second game, Becky Schmidt pitched five strong innings to
improve to 5-0. Schmidt allowed just two hits and one unearned
run.
The Eagles jumped on top with three runs in the first on
run-scoring singles by Bowman, Butler and Elizabeth Smith.
BC added two more runs in the second with Bowman and Butler once
again driving in the runs.
Bridgewater scored its final run in the fourth when Rees singled,
stole second and third before scoring on a single by Morris.
The Eagles are now 17-1 overall and 6-0 in the ODAC.
