BRIDGEWATER, Va. - In an exciting ODAC
volleyball contest on Wednesday evening the Eagles defeated
Virginia Wesleyan in four sets in a key conference matchup at
Nininger Hall.
The Eagles won the first two - 25-22, 25-15 but the Marlins took
the third game with a 23-25 win.
Bridgewater jumped out early in the fourth, leading 8-2 only to
see the Marlins respond. Virginia Wesleyan battled and cut
the lead to four at 16-12 before they tied the game at 22 and
took the lead 23-22. The game then exchanged ties (23-23,
24-24) before the Eagles prevailed with a 26-24 win.
"Our maturation process is lile a geometric progression. Our
last match we were one set better than the match before. Tonight,
we were one set better that our last match," BC head coach Greg
Spector said.
"Tonight is the first night all season we have played with our
projected starting lineup," Spector continued. "We've been battling
through injuries and illness and we now have everyone back on the
court together. Hopefully, this group can stay healthy and develop
a rhythm as we move toward the end of the season."
Senior Tricia Davis led the Eagles with 39 assists and 24 digs
on the night while senior Erika Dirnagl and sophmore Katie Baker
each had 13 kills. Senior Mandy Hill had 10 kills and led the
Eagles in blocks with four. Freshman Casey O'Leary had 19
digs and junior Candice Guy had 17 digs for the Eagles.
Bridgewater is back in action this weekend when they travel to
Frostburg State University for a tournament. "We need to keep
progressing as things won't get any easier. This weekend, we are
going to face some quality opponents and we need to continue
playing well and growing as a team," said Spector.
