Bridgewater College Director of Athletics Curt Kendall announced Lucas Van Deventer has been named Associate Director for Athletic Media Relations in September 2024.
Van Deventer comes from Ellington, Conn. with experience in all divisions through the NCAA. Van Deventer spent two years at the University of Connecticut as the Athletic Communications Assistant in the Athletic Communications department. In Storrs, Conn.; Van Deventer was the primary contact person for women’s volleyball, track & field/ cross country, women’s tennis, and women’s ice hockey.
He helped with pregame and postgame releases, stats, graphics and content creation, and media interviews. Van Deventer also was secondary to men’s basketball during UConn’s back-to-back national championships run in 2023 and 2024 assisting with media availability and releases.
Before UConn, Van Deventer spent time at American International College in Springfield, Mass., as the Assistant Coordinator of Athletic Communications where he helped setup for competition and managed all stats and website responsibilities.
Van Deventer graduated with a bachelor's degree in communications/sports journalism in 2022 from Springfield College in Massachusetts at the “Birthplace of Basketball” where he worked in the athletic department on various hall of fame alumni projects.
Additionally, he played tennis at Springfield for four years and was assigned as senior captain.
