Denver Davis begins his 16th season with the Bridgewater College Eagles Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field programs. In his time at Bridgewater, he has served as an assistant coach, associate head coach and was named Director of Cross Country and Track & Field in November of 2018. Davis’ individual coaching efforts are focused on men’s and women’s hurdles, jumps and sprints.
As Director, Davis’ teams have produced 1 NCAA DIII Top-10 Team finish, 3 NCAA DIII National Champions, 26 NCAA DIII All-Americans, 43 NCAA DIII Championship Qualifiers, 7 USTFCCCA Region Athletes of the Year, 137 USTFCCCA All-Region honorees, 1 ODAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship, 16 ODAC Athletes of the Meet, 5 ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete of the Year, 4 ODAC Rookies of the Year, 78 ODAC champions, and 271 All-ODAC selections.
During his 15 years with the program, Davis has been instrumental in guiding the men’s and women’s programs to a total of 13 ODAC team championships in indoor and outdoor track and field, 5 ODAC team championships and 1 South/Southeast Region championship in cross country and 2 NCAA DIII Cross Country Championship team appearances.
Individually he has coached 6 National Champions and 25 All-Americans, 1 USTFCCCA National Track Athlete of the Year; 1 NCAA Championship Performer of the Meet, 32 NCAA qualifiers, 8 USTFCCCA Region Athletes of the Year; 127 All-Region honorees, 111 ODAC champions, and 305 All-ODAC performers. His athletes have set 1 NCAA DIII National Record, 5 NCAA DIII All-Time Top-10 performances, 12 ODAC records; have claimed 2 NCAA Elite 90 awards, 10 ODAC Track Athlete of the Meet awards, 3 ODAC Field Athlete of the Meet awards, 10 ODAC Rookie of the Year awards and 5 ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar Athlete of the Year awards. For his efforts, Davis was recognized as the USTFCCCA South/Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year 8 times between 2012 and 2018 for men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field.
Prior to coming to Bridgewater, Davis served as associate head coach for boys and girls cross country and track & field at Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke, Va., from 2005-2010.
Davis is no stranger to the ODAC either, having competed for the University of Lynchburg for four years as a member of the cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field teams. While at Lynchburg, Davis was a 1st Team All-ODAC selection in indoor track and field and was a member of 10 ODAC Championship teams across cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field. Davis was also a 6-time ODAC All-Academic selection.
Davis received his bachelor's degree in history from Lynchburg in 2005 and his master's degree in history from George Mason University in 2009.
Davis is a member of USA Track & Field and the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. He holds USTFCCCA Jumps Specialist and Sprints, Hurdles and Relays Specialist Certifications, a USATF Level 1 Coach Certificate and the Altis High Jump, Hurdles and Horizontal Jumps Specialist Certifications.
Denver and his family currently reside in Waynesboro, VA.
