Ryan Legarsky

Ryan Legarsky joined the Bridgewater College athletic staff in November 2021 as the associate director of athletic media relations before earning promotion to director of athletic media relations in August 2022.

Legarsky is the primary contact for football, field hockey, men's and women's indoor track & field, men's and women's golf and men's and women's lacrosse programs. In his short time with the Eagles, Legarsky has promoted one national champion, plus several All-Americans, and dozens of all-conference and all-region performers. Legarsky runs the athletic website (BrigewaterEagles.com) and helped design and oversee the transition to the new Sidearm Sports website launched in July 2022. He is in charge of a gameday staff of nearly 20 students and serves as a liaison for athletics to the marketing office.

Prior to arriving at BC, Legarsky served as the sports information director at Meredith College, located in Raleigh, North Carolina. While the head SID for the Avenging Angels, Legarsky was the primary contact for all intercollegiate programs supported by the college. He oversaw all aspects of media relations for the department and supervised the game day student staff. He led promotion efforts for the department after recent expansion created a pair of new athletic programs and continued the promotion of the lacrosse program that has won each of the last seven USA South conference crowns. Part of Legarsky’s duties included scheduling all home event game staff, managing all aspects of the athletic website, inputting statistics for home events using NCAA Live Stat and PrestoStat software, managing main social media accounts and serving as a liaison for local media and the department. He set up and tore down live video streams for all home events and coordinated photography for the department. Legarsky also nominated student-athletes and staff for all conference, regional and national awards.

Legarsky was named the sports information director at nearby Mary Baldwin University in March 2019. During his time at MBU, Legarsky oversaw athletic media relations for all 15 athletic programs. He covered the launch of men's sports following the school's transition to a coeducational institution, which included baseball, soccer, cross country, indoor/outdoor track & field and tennis. In addition, Legarsky expanded video streaming, ran the athletic social media accounts and led statistical inputting and gameday management efforts for the Fighting Squirrels. He also began digital record keeping for the one-person office for the first time, creating record books for current teams and past supported programs. Legarsky worked hand-in-hand with the university communications office to promote Mary Baldwin athletics to the local community and also worked closely with the local paper to expand the Mary Baldwin brand.

Before coming to Staunton, Legarsky worked at Methodist University beginning in 2016 as the assistant sports information director as the primary contact for 10 of MU's 20 intercollegiate athletic programs, including baseball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's track & field and men's and women's tennis programs. He covered several USA South regular season and postseason tournament champions as well as the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Golf national championship winning Monarchs. Legarsky ran social media accounts, which saw a nearly 75% rise in followers while in control, and served as a play-by-play announcer for select home events, including the entire 2016-17 men’s basketball season. He worked with and trained a staff of over 20 students and interns and also scheduled gameday crews. Included in covering the 10 MU programs, Legarsky promoted a plethora of all-region and all-America performers ranging across his responsibilities and a nationally-recognized baseball program.

Prior to his time with MU, Legarsky was a sports information graduate assistant at the California University of Pennsylvania (NCAA Div. II) while also pursuing a master’s degree in sport management. While with the Vulcans, Legarsky assisted in covering all intercollegiate athletic programs, including the reigning-national champion women's basketball team. He worked closely with a student work staff and trained them in several areas of the office, including statistical inputting.

An avid freelancer, Legarsky has input statistics for schools and tournaments across the east region over the last several years, including the 2019 NCAA Division III regional volleyball tournament.

Legarsky holds a communications degree from Waynesburg University where he studied sports broadcasting and sports information. While at WU, he volunteered with the sports information office stepping in as a public address announcer and also completing office work revolving around record keeping. He was an elected member of the executive staff for the university radio station, WCYJ-FM, as the music director for three years where he worked closely with several different nationwide agencies to constantly update the station's music catelog and keep scheduled music logged for 24 hours, seven days a week, including over summer breaks. Legarsky trained dozens of new on-air talent each semester, logged nearly 10 hours a week of on-air time as a DJ and served as a broadcaster for several WU athletic events each semester, as well. He helped the promotions team for the station and led several events in the Waynesboro community to raise funds for the school's Relay for Life campaign.

In addition to broadcasting and radio work, Legarsky volunteered his time as a writer for the college's award-winning newspaper, The Yellow Jacket. He was the beat writer for the men's soccer team for one season and also covered the wrestling team on its way to the 2013-14 Presidents' Athletic Conference championship.

He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).

Legarsky resides with his wife, Hannah, near Staunton.
