Gina Stephan

Gina Stephan was named the head field hockey coach at Bridgewater in 2021, following one season as an assistant with the Eagles.

Bridgewater earned the No. 5 seed in the ODAC Tournament as the team qualified for the postseason after facing a very tough schedule, including five games against nationally-ranked opponents. Four Eagles earned All-ODAC honors for their efforts during the season.

In her first season at the helm of the Eagles, Stephan led the team to another top six finish in the ODAC to qualify for the conference postseason tournament. A pair of players were named to the All-ODAC team. Stephan's first victory with the Eagles came in a 15-0 win against Meredith on Sept. 8.

During her year as an assistant in 2020-21, the Eagles continued their run of qualifying for every ODAC postseason since the beginning of the conference. Forward Courtney Cooke was a 2nd Team All-State selection, while three BC players made the All-ODAC squad.

Stephan had joined the Eagles staff after a year as the assistant coach at Haverford College in Pennsylvania. The Fords played three top-10 teams to within a goal and received votes in the national polls for several weeks of an eventual 9-8 campaign.

She was previously the head varsity field hockey coach at Clarence High School, earning 2018 New York Section VI Coach of the Year honors and leading her team to two Section VI finals.

Stephan started all 66 games at defense from 2010-13 at The College at Brockport, earning second team All-SUNYAC honors in 2010 and 2012.

She led the Golden Eagles in defensive saves every season, topping the SUNYAC in that category as a sophomore and finishing with 20 for her career.

Stephan has also worked as a graduate intern for Student-Athlete Success at Daemen College, and as the Assistant to the Athletic Director, adjunct instructor of Sport Psychology, and Academic Learning Center and Institutional Advancement assistant at Mount Saint Mary Academy.

Prior to her time at Mount Saint Mary, she served as a Senior Research Support Specialist at the University at Buffalo, and a graduate assistant in the Health Science and Psychology Departments at SUNY Brockport.

Stephan graduated from Brockport in 2014 with a degree in psychology. She has also completed master's degrees in psychology from SUNY Brockport and in sports administration from Canisius College.
