1994, 1995, 1996 Baseball Teams
The Bridgewater College baseball teams of the mid-1990's helped cement the program in the history books, not only for the program, but across the conference as one of the most successful teams in ODAC history.
With three-straight ODAC Tournament championships, the Eagles are one of just two institutions in the history of the conference to win three-consecutive titles, and the most recent program to do so. The stretch started with the 1994 team tying the program record with 25 wins and advancing to the league tournament where it claimed the championship after pounding out 22 runs on 20 hits against then-reigning champs Lynchburg at its own home field. The 1995 team matched the win total from a year prior with a 25-10 record and once again downed the Hornets to claim a second-straight ODAC crown.
In total, Bridgewater tallied 77 victories in three seasons, including setting the team's then-record of 27 wins in the 1996 campaign. The Eagles were just the second team in ODAC history to finish the season with an undefeated mark in league action after posting a 16-0 mark in conference games and then went 3-0 in the ODAC Tournament to finish with 19 straight wins against ODAC opponents to end the 1996 season. Including the end of the 1995 campaign, the Eagles won 31-consecutive games against ODAC opponents in regular season play and the conference tournament. The three teams combined to go 9-0 in the league's postseason on their way to the three championships.
Bridgewater earned the first NCAA Tournament appearances in program history with selections to the South Regional bracket in 1994 and 1995.
The three seasons spawned nine first team All-ODAC selections, including Buck Gordon who went on to earn All-America honors in 1995. He was just the fifth All-American selection in Bridgewater's history and was eventually drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 19th round of the 1995 MLB Draft.
Cory Heinbaugh claimed a pair of first team All-ODAC selections as an outfielder with the teams and finished his career as one of the top hitters in program history as he still stands among career leaders in batting average, runs scored, runs batted in and remains the program leader in on-base percentage.
In addition, Chris Davis claimed a pair of first team All-ODAC laurels at pitcher in 1994 and 1995 and added another top league team selection at DH, as well, to be a three-time first team all-conference selection. Davis combined with a pitching staff consisting of Jason Conley, who also garnered first team honors from the ODAC, Jason Griffin and Courtland Rodamer that dominated opposing hitters and combined for over 40 complete games, which is a mark that will likely never be duplicated.
In recognition of their accomplishments, the 1994, 1995 and 1996 BC baseball teams have been deemed worthy of induction into the Bridgewater College Hall of Fame as Teams of Distinction.
