1960, 1961 & 1962 Women's Basketball Teams
The 1960, 1961 and 1962 Bridgewater College women's basketball teams set the standard of success for the program, redefining what it means to be an Eagle women's basketball player.
Over those three seasons, the team won 31 consecutive games, winning by an average margin of 22 points per game in 1960. That team was led by Ruth Tandy, who guided the squad to key wins over Madison College, William & Mary, RPl and Lynchburg.
Under Tandy's leadership, the team improved on their already dominant 1960 performance with an 11-0 record in 1961, winning by an average of 25.5 points per game. Their closest margin of victory was a 12-point game against RPI, in which they emerged victorious 42-30.
Laura Mapp took the helm of the program as Head Coach in 1962. The team again finished 11-0, this time with a winning margin of 48.8 points. Their victory over Lynchburg by 22 points was the smallest margin of victory in the entire season.
Mapp and Tandy are both members of the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame.
