NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Bridgewater College Eagles were back in action on Sunday to conclude the first round and play the final round of the Music City Shootout with a first-place finish and a second round score at even par for a 288.
After battling the tough conditions on Saturday the Eagles came out of the gate strong to conclude the first round with a two-shot lead. Following that the Eagles never looked back extending their lead to 21 shots by the end to win by the largest margin in program history (as far as records show).
"I'm super proud of how the guys performed today after struggling in the conditions of round 1. They came out ready to play and really showed what this team can be capable of!" said head coach Nick Schlickenrieder.
The Eagles were lead by freshman Jackson Baugher who shot a collegiate best 2-under par 70 backed by his exceptional day on the greens. He went on to finish in a tie for third place which matched his collegiate best finish.
Senior Brandon Washburn carded a 1-under par 71 in the second round to conclude an exceptional bounce back after starting his first six holes of the tournament 10-over par. He went on to play the next 30 at -6 to finish in a tie for 3rd with Baugher.
Sophomore Walker Gillespie had a phenomenal bounce back in round 2 after a rocky start in the 1st round. Gillespie carded a 1-over par 73 to finish in 19th place.
Junior Jayden Hendricks was the fourth score for the Eagles on Sunday bring in a 2-over par 74 to finish in 5th place. Hendricks leaned on his ball striking and tee balls to bring in a second consecutive quality round for the Eagles.
Sophomore Will Layton carded a +4 over par 76 in round 2 after finishing up the first round at just +2. Layton credited his solid performance to his ball striking and always solid putting. Layton finished in 6th place marking the 4th Eagle to make the all tournament team in Nashville.
Senior Ben Hutchenson played as an individual and finished the second round with an 84 to finish in 51st place.
The Eagles will be back in action in Delaware, Pennsylvania. on April 3-4.
