Men's Basketball Falls at EMU

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Bridgewater College men's basketball fell to EMU in the Route 42 Rivalry game by a final score 70-49 on the road Wednesday night.

Bridgewater College Eagles have dropped to 6-14 overall and 2-9 in conference play and the EMU Royals moved to 6-14 overall and 3-8 in the ODAC.

How It Happened

Bridgewater faced a tough EMU out of the gate to start the first half, surging ahead to a 10-3 lead at the first media timeout. The Eagles struggled to find their way in the paint, forcing contested shots from deep. Maleek Richardson splashed the first three for BCE, but little was to show for it afterwards.

Halfway through the first half, EMU was hard to stop, nailing shots from the paint and extending the lead to 26-7. Fast breaks came quickly and effectively for the Royals. Under four minutes to go in the opening half and EMU powered through the defense to put up a comfortable lead for the rest of the half. The Royals finished the first half up 46-27.

To begin the second half, EMU and BCE struggled to keep solid possessions, leaving the lead in EMU's hands through the first media timeout. The turnovers continued to set the Eagles back.

EMU continued to push the issue and drew fouls to finish free baskets at the line. The Eagles were denied offensive opportunities to make some damage and dropped back to an 18-point deficit at the halfway mark in the second half.

Under four minutes to go in regulation, EMU controlled pace and efficiency the rest of the way, finding quick looks in transition. Jahmir Brown exerted final efforts but in the end, the Royals finished the contest, 70-49.

Game Notes

  • The Eagles shot a struggling 35.3 field goal percentage while the Royals shot at an efficient 50 percent.

  • The Royals succeeded in points off turnovers with 17 points.
