BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team took a 9-8 win over Greensboro Wednesday evening in their season home opener.

How it Happened

Bridgewater quickly got on the board with an unassisted goal from Jake Wagner 30 seconds into the contest. After a seven-minute scoring drought from both teams, Greensboro responded by scoring with 7:55 remaining in the opening period. Greensboro scored again with 4:29 remaining in the period after a shot attempt immediately after scooping a ground ball on a blocked shot. Luke Wendler evened the score at 2-2 with 2:12 remaining in the quarter. With 40 seconds remaining in the period, Issac Beals connected with Alex Garbarino on a man-up opportunity. Despite missing a couple of shot attempts in the waning seconds of the period, the goal gave BC a 3-2 advantage heading into the second quarter.

The Beals-Pinto connection found the back of the net within the first 30 seconds of the second half on an extra man opportunity, giving Bridgewater their largest lead of the competition. The Pride replied with a man-up goal of their own with 9:17 remaining in the third quarter. Seconds later, Killian Krapfl won the faceoff and added a goal to his stat sheet. Greensboro scored again a minute later to cut their deficit to one. With 5:10 remaining, Pinto found Wendler for his third assist of the affair, making the score 7-5 favoring Bridgewater. With 3:46 remaining, GC's Seth Woods secured a hat trick with an unassisted goal. Greensboro found the back of the net once more to tie the game at 7-7. Tristan Lee found the back of the net with 1:26 remaining in the period to put Bridgewater back in the driver's seat.

Greensboro was plagued with penalties in the final period, allowing four extra man opportunities for the Eagles. Despite this, the Pride found the back of the net with 6:05 remaining in the contest to tie the score at 8-8. With 2:16 remaining, Ryan Linn connected with fellow team captain Riley Stewart for the game winning goal, handing the Pride their first loss of the season.
