Three Players Record a Hat Trick in Men's Lacrosse Win over Piedmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Bridgewater College men's lacrosse team cruised to a 14-7 victory over Piedmont Saturday afternoon. This game was the last of BC's pair of contests at the Music City Classic, hosted by Sewanee. 

The Basics: 

Scores: Bridgewater 14, Piedmont 7 

Records: Bridgewater (2-0), Piedmont (0-2) 

How it Happened: 

  • Bridgewater scored two goals in the opening minutes of the affair. In the second minute, Luke Wendler ripped the first score of the contest off an assist from Jake WagnerAlex Garbarino, assisted by Isaac Beals, added to the tally a minute later. 

  • In the final six minutes of the first quarter, the Eagles increased their lead by four. With 6:19 remaining in the quarter, Wagner scored off an assist from Beals. Wagner scored again with 4:36 remaining in the quarter. Connor Warren scored two minutes later on an assist from Ryan Linn. Wendler scored his second goal of the afternoon with a minute to go in the opening period to push the Bridgewater lead to six. 

  • Bridgewater scored two goals in the first four minutes of the second quarter. A minute and a half into the quarter, CJ McKnight picked up his first collegiate goal on an assist from Nico Marsicano. Wendler picked up his third goal of the afternoon on an assist from Wagner. 

  • After a nearly seven-minute scoring drought, Piedmont put an end to their dry spell. The Lions scored on a man-up opportunity to get on the board. In the final minute of the first half, the Lions converted on another extra man opportunity, cutting down the Bridgewater lead to six. 

  • Wagner opened the second half with a goal assisted by Beals. Garbarino scored soon after on an extra man opportunity.  

  • Piedmont and Bridgewater both scored their next goals on man-up opportunities. The Lions etched their third goal into the stat sheet with nine minutes remaining in the third quarter. Beals responded with a goal, assisted by Wagner. Beals scored the last goal for the Eagles in the quarter with nearly two minutes remaining.  

  • Bridgewater surrendered three goals in the final period, all coming from man-down scenarios. Tyler Pinto scored the final goal for the Eagles with 8:58 remaining in the contest. 

Match Notes 

  • Seven different players recorded a goal for the Eagles (Wendler, Wagner, Garbarino, Beals, Pinto, McKnight, Warren). 

  • Isaac Beals had a well-balanced diet in the stat sheet. The sophomore attacker recorded five points, coming from two goals and three assists. Beals also led the team in ground balls with six, and caused turnovers with four.  

  • Ian Cook played all 60 minutes in between the pipes for the Eagles for the second consecutive game. Cook recorded 14 saves. 

  • Bridgewater found themselves down a player on 12 occasions in the contest. Six of Piedmont's 7 points came from extra man opportunities. 

  • BC finished 2-0 in the Music City Classic. A 2-0 start to the regular season is the best for the Eagles since 2023.

The Eagles face Marymount in Arlington, Va. on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 12 p.m.
