Box Score
BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's soccer team took down Southern Virginia 2-1 Wednesday evening behind goals from Cole Dunbar and Riley Queen. The Eagles improved to 2-0 on the season, with both wins coming on the road to USA South squads.

How It Happened
  • BC's first shot attempt came from Anthony Eugenio in the fourth minute of the match. It was saved by SVU's keeper, Troy Chamberlain. Nearing the 16-minute mark, junior forward Riley Queen struck first for the Eagles off an assist from Eugenio.
  • Bridgewater had plenty more missed opportunities, including shots on target from Anthony Medrano, Noa Denno, and Ethan Locklear. The SVU defense finally caved in after junior forward Cole Dunbar found the back of the net in the 26th minute, adding to the Eagles' lead.
  • A foul on freshman defender Leyden Mongold in the 30th minute led to a penalty kick taken by SVU's Tate Hickman. This was the lone shot on goal for the Knights in the match.
  • Despite being ahead, Bridgewater's offense continued to apply pressure to the SVU back line in the second half. The Eagles had eight shots in the second half, five of them being on goal. The game got physical at different points in the second half, as three yellow cards were given. SVU had two shots in the half, none of them were on target.
Match Notes
  • With his goal today, Queen now only needs one goal to move to 10th all-time in program history. Dunbar scored his first goal of the season.
  • BC was on the better end of a disparity in shots. Bridgewater took 23 shots in the contest against SVU's four. The Knights only had one shot on goal the entire contest.
  • Freshman keeper Zane Kowalski played all 90 minutes between the pipes for the Eagles.
  • SVU mustered one shot on goal via the penalty kick.
