BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's soccer team took a 4-2 victory over William Peace Saturday afternoon. The Eagles handed the Pacers their first loss of the season behind scoring efforts from
Trey Widrick,
Riley Queen, Matthew Brand, and
Noa Denno.

How it Happened
- BC applied pressure from the beginning of the match, keeping the ball in their attacking half.
- Noa Denno scored the first goal of the match off a Trey Widrick corner kick. The pass found the head of the junior midfielder for his first goal of the season.
- William Peace seemed to be entering the half scoreless, as they fired off two shots in the waning minutes that could not find the back of the net. In the final minute of the first half, Santiago Escobar capitalized on a turnover from Bridgewater keeper Zane Kowalski and found the back of the net to even the score heading into the halftime break.
- Bridgewater had a few shot attempts in the opening minutes of the second half. Jayden Buckles found the gloves of Ayden Miller in the first shot attempt of the half. The attempt was followed by Widrick sending a shot above the post.
- In the 52nd minute, Widrick lobbed a through pass to Riley Queen. Queen beat two Pacers defenders and put a shot into the net for the second BC goal of the match.
- In the 54th minute, both Joshua Parker and Widrick each took shots in the box, but both were deflected by the William Peace keeper, resulting in a corner kick. Matthew Brand took the corner opportunity for the Eagles and found nylon.
- In the 71st minute, Denno drew a foul in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Rafa Quevedo-Antunez took the penalty shot and passed Bashore to cut the deficit to one.
- Widrick responded in the 81st minute with a goal of his own. He dribbled to the right post and drilled a shot into the back of the net, giving BC a 4-2 lead.
Match Notes
- With his goal, Queen now stands ninth all-time in goals scored.
- Widrick's goal in the 81st minute was his first of the season. His two assists put him at eight career assists, setting him one assist away from tenth in program history.
- Denno scored the first goal in his collegiate career.
- While both sides were physical through the entirety of the match, Bridgewater's physicality showed in the box score, especially in the first half. The Eagles recorded 13 fouls in the match, with 10 being recorded in the first half.
- Bridgewater won the shot battle by a narrow margin in this matchup. BC recorded 13 shots against William Peace's 11. Bridgewater sent nine on target, while the Pacers only put five on goal. The Eagles have won the shot battle in every match this season.
- The Eagles split playing time evenly between the pipes in this match. The Eagles started freshman Zane Kowalski at goalie. He was replaced with Davis Bashore in the second half. Both goalies allowed one goal. Kowalski made one save and Bashore made two.
