Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Eagles Round Out Gettysburg Battlefield Classic with Wins Over Dickinson and Neumann

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Bridgewater College women's volleyball bounced back from dropping two on the first day yesterday of the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic to clinching wins against Dickinson and Neumann on the final day of the quad match tournament.

The Gettysburg Battlefield Classic concluded after two days of competition as the Eagles wrapped up action with wins over Dickinson and Neumann.

The Basics

Score:

Match 1: Bridgewater (BCE) 3, Dickinson (DC) 0

Match 2: Bridgewater (BCE) 3, Neumann (NEU) 1

Records: BCE (2-2); DC (1-3), NEU (0-4)

How It Happened

Vs. Dickinson

  • The Eagles locked in as soon as the first serve was hit. Bridgewater beautifully countered Dickinson's attacks effectively to keep them with the momentum to start out the first set. Halfway in the first set, BCE managed to pull away with a strong four-point run and then soon followed it up with another set-clinching scoring run. The Eagles closed out the opening set with the help from Reagan Stoop's thunderous kill and Maya Veselinovic's solo block for a 25-23 score.

  • In the second set, BCE did not have as much control as it did in the first set. The Red Devils kept it close and played smart offensively and defensively. However, Stoop once again found a way for the Eagles to gain traction knocking down a kill and leading the Crimson & Gold to a crucial three-point run to knot it up at 10 apiece. Back-and-forth action ensued but the Eagles found the breakaway late in the set and surged to a commanding four-point run for a 25-21 second set score.

  • Although DC did not let up and stayed close once again in the third set, the Eagles finally hit their groove that they had been waiting for, rumbling to multiple scoring runs and efficiently rolling to match point for a third-set match clinch at 25-16.

Vs. Neumann

  • Bridgewater left no doubt in coming out aggressive executing on quality offensive sets and pummeling the Neumann defense. The Eagles poured on a massive nine-point run to take NEU completely out of reach in the opening set. First year Rebecca Huddleston closed out the set with a knock down for a 25-9 score.

  • Strong and aggressive play continued from Bridgewater's side as they quickly jumped out to an early 5-0 second set. The Crimson & Gold nailed it down the rest of the way, lunging out to an enormous 17-8 lead. The second set was handled efficiently with the Eagles finishing off a four-point run to make it 25-14.

  • The Knights then turned the page to the third set and managed to sneak in momentum shifting offense with much more back-and-forth play throughout the set. The Eagles kept it close but were forced to go four sets as the third set went to NEU, 25-22.

  • Much like the first two sets, BCE handled the Knights much more effectively and capitalized on errant offensive attacking strikes. Sophomore Agnes Alford helped kick off a five-point scoring run with three kills in that span to make it 17-7. The Eagles took care of business minimizing any potential momentum threats and rounded out the final set with the help of another strong offensive run making it 25-10 Bridgewater.

Match Notes

Vs. Dickinson

  • Bridgewater overcame its brief setback yesterday against Messiah and Otterbein with a more positive mark in total attacking points and hitting percentage. The Eagles outdid the Red Devils in hitting percentage with a .230 mark and 54 points.

  • Junior Regan Stoop was ready to fire away as she led the match offensively with 20 kills.

Vs. Neumann

  • Bridgewater dominated from the very beginning of the play, nearly doubling the Knights in service aces (16).

  • The Eagles were able to take advantage of Neumann's struggling attacking offense as BCE kept a steady .263 hitting percentage while NEU dropped to a .057 percentage.

  • Sophomore Lindsay Kelley recorded a game-high and career-high 24 assists.
