Baseball Set for ODAC Finals Round at Capital One Park

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College baseball team is set for the 2025 ODAC Championship Round Weekend at Capital One Park in Tysons Corner, Va., facing off first with No. 2 seed Randolph-Macon on Thursday, May 8.

The Eagles found a way to slip past the fighting Averett Cougars and in the deciding game three decision for the series, No. 3 seeded Bridgewater College prevailed.

Last Saturday, the men clawed their way back making up serious ground on the Cougars in late innings to reclaim the lead and capture the 7-3 win, advancing the Eagles straight to the championship round (double elimination format).

Now on the schedule for head coach Ben Spotts and Co. is Randolph-Macon.  The Yellow Jackets enter the matchup 27-13 overall and 15-7 in ODAC play. Last weekend, the second seed bested No. 7 seed Hampden-Sydney in a deciding game three decision en route to a 20-11 win.

If the Eagles win, they will advance to Friday to face either the No. 4 seed Shenandoah or the top-seed Lynchburg. Both Shenandoah and Lynchburg took care of business and grabbed the series win in two games last time out.

The top-seed Lynchburg enter the ODAC tournament championship round as the fifth-best team nationally in the D3Baseball.com poll as well as sixth ranked in the NCAA poll index. Randolph-Macon is also receiving votes for a national ranking and is ranked 28th in NPI.

Currently, the Eagles sit 61st in NPI. Overall, the Bridgewater baseball team has a 26-14-1 record and a 15-8-1 conference record. At the plate, Zack Chadwell and Nick Stavros have been taking charge offensively. Chadwell has posted 14 home runs, 55 runs batted in, 36 runs scored, 39 walks, and a stellar 1.322 OPS while carrying a .396 batting average. Stavros has kept up with Chadwell boasting a team-high .438 batting average along with 71 hits, 37 runs batted in, and a 1.091 OPS.

On the mound, Cam Nuckols has held down the bats this season. Nuckols tossed two complete game shutouts this season against Averett and Randolph-Macon. The right hander holds a 3.22 earned run average, a 1.28 WHIP, and a team-high 65 strikeouts in 12 appearances.

The Eagles are scheduled to begin action against Randolph-Macon at 6:30 p.m. Thursday night. Live stream and live stats links will be available from Capital One Park on the athletics website and the ODAC Championship page online.
