How It Happened
Game 1
-
Dominance was displayed on the mound in the first game against the Yellow Jackets as Cam Nuckols mowed down seven batters and held RMC to five runners left on base. The Yellow Jackets had little momentum from the plate to make up any ground, while the Eagles continued to dial in and find their pitches.
-
With the strong offensive-minded approach, BCE struck first and never looked back. Chandler Valbak helped bring in Nick Stavros with a double to left field for the opening run in the first inning. As Nuckols held strong, the Eagles found extra breathing room in the fourth as Lucas Bauer hustled out a play in the infield which brought around Trent Holland for the 2-0 lead.
Game 2
-
Similar to the first game, the Eagles started with the lead and never lost the lead the whole way through. The offensive onslaught began with a two-run single by Ashton Smith through the left side scoring in Trent Holland and Zack Chadwell. The Yellow Jackets managed to get one on the board with an RBI double, but Evan Bert got out of the inning tossing the third out over to Chandler Valbak.
-
In the third inning, Valbak stepped up to the plate and ripped a single down the left field line to help bring in Nick Stavros. Chadwell then boosted the Eagles' lead with a two-run moon shot over the center field fence. Ashton Smith joined the hitting party with a long ball just staying fair on the left field pole side to push the lead to 6-2 after three complete innings.
-
The Yellow Jackets worked a short burst comeback in the fourth, evening the score with the help of a four-run frame. A sacrifice fly, a single up the middle, and a two-run home run did the trick to knot it up.
-
However, the Eagles were just getting started with their offensive scoring burst. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Stavros came around to score on a balk helping Valbak to reach third. Holland answered the call lofting a single in dangerous territory in the infield causing Valbak to touch home plate. Smith closed out the frame with a well-struck single to center field to score Holland.
-
At 10-6 Eagles, the hitting amped up in the sixth inning. Jake Harris found the infield gap lining an RBI single through the right side bringing in Smith. Bransen Hensley followed suit with Harris and singled through the right side knocking in Lucas Bauer. With a seven-run lead, Stavros marked the third single of the inning finding the gap in left center to help bring home Harris and Bryce Suters. Chadwell worked a sac fly to get Suters around to score to make the lead stand at an enormous 14-6 advantage.
-
Then, with back-to-back singles, the Eagles were set up to achieve the run rule in the seventh. BCE did just that, as it began with a wild pitch for the Smith knock and right after; Hensley laced a single up the middle to score Bauer for the 16-6 final score (due to run rule).
