How It Happened
  • Virginia Wesleyan struck first just over a minute into the contest on the man advantage. Gabe Wallman stopped the Marlins' first chance, but a shot by Daniel Auxier found nylon to make it 1-0. BC had its first chance spoiled by a save by Zach Tucker, and VWU went on the attack. BC fended off the Marlin's chance, but a defensive end turnover led to a tally for VWU to make it 2-0. The visitors added on as they continued to force turnovers. VWU added two more scores, including a goal with nine seconds to go, to make it 4-0 after the opening frame.
  • The Marlins added to the lead with a goal just over two minutes into the second frame. BC got on the board after Jackson Wicker forced a turnover. The Eagles got the successful clear, and Drew Huber fired his shot to the back of the net to make it 5-1. Colt Short forced a turnover a few seconds later and Alex Garbarino followed with a tally for the Eagles to make it 5-2. The Marlins had a quick answer to make it 6-2 and the two sides traded chances, but neither side scored to send it to the intermission at the same scoreline.
  • The Eagles had chances to score early in the third quarter, but the Marlins flipped the field and made it 7-2. BC had a response moments later as Luke Wendler found the back of the net to make it 7-3 and the Eagles stayed on the offense, but a save by Tucker changed the momentum leading to two late tallies for the visitors late in the third, leading to an 8-3 Va. Wesleyan advantage after three quarters.
