WINCHESTER, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team fell to Shenandoah 7-0 on Sunday.
Shenandoah won the doubles point with quick wins at No.1 and No. 3, but as a side effect of the new rules, No. 2 doubles was stopped a game away from the finish line as
Raea Crabill and
Emma Staton were in front 6-5 before the match was called due to a team clinching the point.
The Hornets rolled to victories at the No.1, No. 3 and No. 4 spots to clinch the match victory, but there was competitive action still going on.
Jolexie Whetzel fell in two tight sets 3-6, 5-7 at No. 2, while
Devon Wichael met the same fate at No. 5 at a 4-6, 3-6 line.
Charlotte Weaver was the last match on court with a wild scoreline at the No. 6 spot. Weaver dropped the first set 1-6, but stormed back to win the second 6-0. The match tiebreak went past the advertised distance as Weaver fended off two match points to eventually have one of her own. Weaver did not convert and fell 10-12.Â
The Eagles are back in action on April 22 as they host No. 32 Washington and Lee. There is still a makeup date to be announced for a match with Ferrum that was scheduled for Thursday.Â
