The Basics

Score: Emmanuel (EC) 9, Bridgewater (BCE) 7

Records: EC (1-1), BCE (3-2)

How It Happened

  • Through much back-and-forth scoring action in the first half and the third quarter, the Emmanuel Saints found their rhythm late to go ahead and keep the momentum the rest of the way in the fourth quarter.

  • The Eagles pushed the action first taking a shot on goal early in the first quarter to find the back of the net off the stick of Jenna Entsminger. The Saints answered three minutes later. Then, through efforts to fight for a controlled possession Paige Overeem put the second goal on the board with the assist by Olivia Lawrence. In quick transition, the Eagles turned and fired the third goal of the quarter off the stick of Carly Gardill. The period ended at 3-1.

  • EC worked its way back in the second quarter knocking in two goals to even it up at three apiece with 3:30 left in the half. The Eagles were closed off eliminating a chance to take the lead back before clock hit zeros in the quarter.

  • The Saints went up by one four minutes into the second half. However, Entsminger returned the favor on a free position attempt to knot it up at four. Then, the Saints worked a free position attempt with the execution to go up 5-4. Off the draw control picked up by Gardill, the Eagles forced the issue into the opposing back line getting another free position attempt. Overeem succeeded in tying it up again.

  • Entsminger again took a shot on goal to find the back of the net and reclaim the lead at 6-5 with 4:58 to go. The Eagles soon after brought the lead to two with another attacking drive by Entsminger for the seventh total goal.

  • With under a minute to go in the third, the Saints began their offensive surge laying in the sixth goal and cutting the deficit at 7-6 BCE. EC tied it up once more with eight minutes ticked off the game clock. The Saints turned on an unconverted free position shot and earned themselves a free position attempt for the go-ahead goal. EC sealed the game with a two-goal lead closing out the game 9-7 for the final.
