WINTERHAVEN, Fla. – The Bridgewater College softball team erupted for 31 runs in a sweep during day two of its stay in Florida.
Game 1
The Basics
Score: Aurora 7, Bridgewater 3
Records: Bridgewater 5-2, Aurora 5-1
How It Happened
- Evelyn Rhoads sat down the Spartans in order top open the contest and BC went to work offensively. McKenna Mueller singled with two away and stole second. Jazmyne SMith came to the dish next and singled allowing Mueller to hustle her way in and score and give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
- BC added on in the second inning as a Lexi Schaaf double opened the inning. Skyer Buzbee drove her in with a one-out base knock to make it 2-0 and the Eagles added one more run in the frame on a Jordan Wise RBI single that drove Buzbee in to make it 3-0. Aurora struck back instantly in the top of the third as a two-out double drove in one run, but a nice relay kept the Spartans from adding on anymore as another runner was thrown out at home on the play.
- Both sides had runners on and chances to strike, but the fifth inning allowed Aurora to take over. A leadoff single and a two-run homer by Clemens tied the game in just two sings of the bat. BC made a call to the bullpen, but the Spartans bats continued to roll as a pair of singles and a throwing error put runners on the corners with just one gone. a squeeze play allowed the lead runner to sneak in and score on the sacrifice and make it 4-3.
- Bridgewater left two runners stranded in the home half of the fifth and AU added to its lead in the top half of the sixth as a pair of RBI knocks and a bases-loaded walk made it 7-3 heading to the bottom of the sixth. BC went down in order in both the sixth and the seventh as Aurora was able to hang on for the win.
Match Notes
- Cauthorn (2-1) took the loss in the circle after surrendering a pair of earned runs in an inning of relief work. Schaaf led BC with a 2-for-2 mark at the dish and a run scored.
- Buske took the win for Aurora after opening the game, but it was the shutdown performance from Campbell out of the bullpen for the Spartans that made the difference as she did not allow a base runner in her 2.1 innings of relief work.
Game 2

Score: Bluffton 5, Bridgewater 2
Records: Bridgewater 5-3, Bluffton 4-4
How It Happened
- BC went down in order to open the second contest of the day and Bluffton put a runner on in the bottom of the first by virtue of an error, but BC got out of the jam unscaved.
- Both teams had a runner on in the second inning, but neither scratched a run across. BC got the scoring started in the third as a Kaelynn Ramsey single down the line along with an Aniella Baldwin walk put two runners on. Hannah Mahan laid down a bunt the following at bat and reached safely to load the bases with no outs. Wise grounded into a fielder's choice during the next at bat and Ramsey was out at the plate oin the play, but Mueller delivered in the next at bat as she singled to left to drive in Baldwin, but Mahan was fired down at the plate for the second out of the inning. Smith dug in next and doubled to the left-field gap to push Wise across to make it 2-0 for BC.
- Bluffton responded immediately as two singles and walk with one away loaded the bases. A sacrifice flyout drove in the first run of the inning and a wlk followed to load the bases once again. This time the flyball had a little more distance than earlier in the inning as a two-out grand slam from Gronberg put the Beavers in front 5-2.
- BC looked to respond in the top of the fourth after a Ramsey two-out single, but she was left stranded. Lily Moyers closed out the third after the grand slam and continued to roll as she surrendered just one base runner in her 3.1 innings of relief, but the Eagles only had batters reach outside of the Ramsey base knock during the same time span.
Match Notes
- Moyers (0-1) took the loss in the circle after surrendering five earned runs in 2.2 innings of work. Jones' 3.1 hitless innings kept BC in it, while Ramsey was the only Eagles with multiple hits in game two.
- Meese tossed the complete game on 100 pitches and just two earned runs and five hits. Gronberg's homer was the difference while she was the only Beaver with multiple hits in the contest.
