HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Bridgewater College women's tennis team fell to St. Vincent 5-2 on Tuesday despite winning efforts at the top of the ladder.
SVC took the doubles point with quick victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, but the Eagles' top duo of
Sarah Slagle and
Jolexie Whetzel battles to a 6-3 victory at No. 1.
Slagle and Whetzel kept the momentum rolling as they were the first two off in singles play. SLagle rolled her way to a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No.1, while WHetzel emerged victorius, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 in a battle at the No. 2 spot.
BC had chances to stay alive for the team victory at No. 3 and No. 4 singles adn
Raea Crabill and
Emma Staton both went the distance. Crabill fell 6-3, 3-6, 6-10 in nearly a two-hour marathon, while Staton was a victim to the match tiebreak 6-0, 3-6, 7-10. at No. 4.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday as the take on John Caroll, weather permitting.
