Baseball Takes Setback Against Mary Washington

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater baseball faced a tough setback against Mary Washington falling 12-0 at home Wednesday.

The Basics

Score: Mary Washington (UMW) 12, Bridgewater (BCE) 0

Records: UMW (18-6), BCE (13-8-1)

How It Happened

  • The offense stayed at a standstill for both squads until the third inning when UMW broke the score open with four runs. BCE faced tough arms on the mound preventing the Bridgewater Eagles from doing any damage.

  • UMW continued to plunge ahead with aggressive at-bats that allowed for a two-run homer in the fifth. The Mary Washington Eagles approached the plate with discipline knocking in a runner on a sacrifice fly in the fourth and a pair of walks in both the fifth and sixth to boost the lead at 9-0.

  • With additional fielding errors by BCE, UMW took advantage and hustled out plays at home plate. Three more runs scored. The game was cut after seven as the Bridgewater Eagles struggled to find any comfortable zone at the plate and the Mary Washington Eagles forced a scoreless outing while finishing out the day with 12 runs.

Game Notes

  • Andrew Cheatham came in to pinch hit and knocked a single through the right side for one of four total hits on the day.

  • BCE faced sharp hits in the field resulting in three errors while Mary Washington cleaned the ball up in the field effectively without an error.

  • Chad Martin took care of business in the seventh inning to retire the sides on three-straight strikeouts.
