BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College men's tennis team fell to Averett 7-0 on Tuesday evening in ODAC play.
AU opened up with a quick victory at No. 3 doubles, but BC's top two pairings made things interesting for the doubles point.
Mark Gordon and
Eli Morela led 3-1 at No. 2 before falling in a tight 4-6 battle. The Eagles top duo fought until the end as
Matthew Leonard and
Corey Beshoar trailed 1-4, but rallied to get back to within a service break at 3-5 before falling 3-6.Â
Up 1-0 in the match score, AU took control with quick victories at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, but tough efforts from Leonard and Beshoar at the top two spots kept things interesting. Leonard's opening stanza was over quick by a 0-6 score line, but an early service break by the senior got him back in the second set. Leonard continued to fight before dropping the second set 3-6. Beshoar's opening set took nearly an hour as the two traded service breaks before a pair of double faults handed the opening set to AU 5-7. The sophomore fell behind early in the second set, but recovered before dropping the frame 2-6.
AU locked up the rest of the match with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
BC is back in action on Monday, March 17 at No. 32 Washington and Lee.Â
